Task
T distributes the text (Annex 5_Emotions Text).
Ss read a text about emotional intelligence and check if their previous ideas are mentioned in the text using the ideas written on the board.
Since the text is quite long, comprehension should be checked through questions made by the teacher (just orally and before working on their worksheets): What situation is described in the text? What do we need to develop to face these type of situations successfully? T elicits some ideas in plenary before moving on to the next activity.
Ss read again and do the activities presented in the worksheet.
First the work on Activity 1 (True or False). They do the activity individually and then compare their answers with a partner. Finally, Ss share ideas in plenary.
Ss do Activity 2 in pairs. For the fourth question, students need to choose one option from the four presented in the text and mention the possible consequence. For example: If I look unhappy when I´m with my friends, they will ask me about the reason or If I look unhappy when I´m with my friends, they will ignore me.
It’s important to differentiate the questions that ask for literal and inferential comprehension so T could oriente students on how to work on them.
Ss should finally write a title for the text.
